How can I contact FlyDOG?
| A link to our contact form is found on the bottom of each page throughout the Web site. |
|
Feel free to send us feedback about the Web site or questions about upcoming events. |
What basic necessities should I bring to a play day?
| Depending on what sport you decide to partake in will decide how much equipment you should bring. If you're interested in agility, some basic jumps and weave poles will be provided. Currently A-frames and walks are unavailable. For any sport, be sure to provide plenty of water for your dog. Lawn chairs are also recommended when you desire to take a break. |
|
On hotter days, it is recommended you bring some sort of shade for your dog. If you decide to participate in disc sports, be sure to bring a few discs. Depending on the sports of a particular play day, some equipment may be provided. Check the Web site for more information on upcoming playdays. |
What breeds of dogs are best suited for canine disc sports?
| Herding breeds tend to do very well at these activities, but any dog with the right combination of athleticism, behavior, temperament and prey/play drive can be a potential canine star. |
|
If you don't already have a dog, choose one that best suits your lifestyle. Herding breeds may be too energetic for you if you lead a busy lifestyle. |
What limitations should I observe when training my dog?
| Generally, elderly dogs, large breeds and puppies pose a higher risk of injury participating in these sports. However, with proper care and a watchful eye, these dogs can still have fun with these sports. Just don't push them too hard. Puppies under the age of 18 months should be limited to how high and how frequently they jump while performing agility or disc sports. |
|
Elderly dogs should also be limited on the height and frequency of jumps. Puppies mature, physically, between the ages of 1 and 2 years old while older dogs tend to slow down with age. On warmer days, be sure to give your pet frequent water breaks but be sure they don't drink too much at one time or they could run the risk of bloat; a deadly condition. |
What types of equipment are commonly used in these sports?
| For agility, there are several obstacles used. These include standard jumps, tire jumps, tunnels, chutes, A-frame and walks. Other obstacles may also be present depending on the design of the course as presented by the course judge. |
|
In disc sports, the most popular discs are from Wham-O, Hero Disc and Hyperflite. While other companies, such as Innova, produce dog discs, it is recommended that you begin your training with the more common discs used in competition. |
Will I have the opportunity to participate in club demonstrations?
| All teams on our roster have the opportunity to perform at any demos that may be performed by FlyDOG in the future. It is not a requirement and depending on the event, the number of performers may be limited. If you do not get to participate in a demo, efforts will be made to include you in a future demo. |
|
It is desired that each of our teams will have the chance to gain experience through demonstrations and competitions. This is a sports club for all who share an interest in canine sports. While it is understood that not everyone can make a demo, play day or competition, we invite everyone to participate. |
